The McConnell Group (TMG) is a health science research company. We are supporting the research mission of the Department of Homeland Security at the Plum Island Animal Disease Center, Orient, NY. We are seeking a licensed Clinical Veterinarian to support ongoing research efforts in this government facility. The facility is rated as Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) for the study of Tier 1 Select Agents. The contractor Clinical Veterinarian will provide daily animal welfare support by diagnosing and prescribing treatment plans for injured/sick animals, primarily swine and bovine; providing supervisory guidance and hands-on training support for junior technicians as well as Principal Investigators; administering drugs, including controlled substances, to animals in the appropriate manner as prescribed by Standard Operating Procedures; attending IACUC meetings and offering advice on study implementation and regulatory compliance; preparing for and coordinating all internal and external facility audits; and supporting the Attending Veterinarian with additional duties as assigned. This position is generally on-site Monday-Friday with some telework allowable. Weekend on-call duty may be necessary in emergencies.
The worksite is accessible from Orient, NY and Old Saybrook, CT.
Qualifications:
1) Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent
2) Licensed to practice in one state within the U.S.
3) At least 5 years of clinical experience with large animals and/or board eligible for lab animal medicine (ACLAM)
4) Ability to restrain and/or lift animals weighing 50 lbs or more
5) Experience working in an agricultural biocontainment facility is a plus
6) Ability to clear security background checks
