Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Examine, diagnose and provide routine and emergency treatment to animals at MACC, including vaccination and prescription of controlled substances, coordination of lab work, documentation and observation of treatments.
• Provide sterilization and other necessary surgery to animals at MACC.
• Follow established procedures to ensure that all controlled substances are stored and used in accordance with laws and regulations and that proper recordkeeping occurs.
• Prepare specimens for rabies, necropsies, and other disease/parasitic testing.
• Assist in training staff on animal health issues.
• Help to ensure and maintain general health of facility for live-in animals.
• Participate in MACC community outreach efforts such as vaccination clinics.
• Communicate with public about treatment needs for animals.
• Prepare investigative reports as needed, including forensic investigation and/or reporting for animal cruelty, and provide expert testimony.
• Provide the euthanasia of animals as identified by shelter management.

Required Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from an accredited school or equivalent
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
Two years of clinical experience as a licensed veterinarian
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Licensed Veterinarian in Minnesota
Eligible for DEA Registration
Valid Driver's License
SELECTION PROCESS:
The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience and an oral examination (100%). It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score (70%) on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process.
BACKGROUND CHECK:
The City has determined that a criminal background check and qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. DRUG AND ALCOHOL TESTING:

ELIGIBILITY LIST STATEMENT:
